There are the leaf shaped blade and red horse-hair tassel lashed just below. Maybe you are curious to know what the use of tassel is. There are two main reasons:

A. When the spear is moving quickly, the addition of the tassel aids in blurring the vision of the opponent so that it is more difficult for them to grab the shaft of spear behind the head or tip.

B. The tassel also served another purpose, to stop the flow of blood from the blade getting to the wooden shaft (the blood would make it slippery or sticky when dried).

The Advantages Of Spears:
1. The spear was normally light so that it could be wielded around with quickness and agility.

2. The spears movements are normally compared to a swimming dragon.

3. The spear was so versatile; it can be used for stabbing, sweeps, slashes and blocking.

4. It has a longer reach than all swords; therefore spear users win the bout more likely than not against sword wielders, even against multiple opponents.

5. It also has excellent leverage due to the distance between the two hands. So unless the swordsman highly outmatched the spearman, the spearman will most likely get all the bet.

The Category Of Spears:
According to length: The length varied from around 7 feet (2 meters) long, commonly used by infantry, increasing up to the length of 13 feet (4 meters) favored by cavalry.

According to material: The spear is typically made of wax wood, a strong but flexible wood. It bends to absorb impact preventing breakage. The bending motion combined with the horse hair tassel makes the spear tip very hard to follow.
